INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION

Instructor, Mark Sherman

English Department Western Washington University

Technical writers are responsible for the manuals of the word processors, spreadsheets, games, and graphics programs we use.  They write the instructions  that help us assemble and run the machines at home and at work.  They work for Google, Amazon, Microsoft, NASA, Goodwill, Planned Parenthood, and the U.S. Government. Technical writers write speeches for executives to give at board meetings and conferences; write copy for radio advertisements, and deliver oral presentations at trade shows.  Technical writers are highly-paid communicators who act  as ambassadors of information--representing a daunting world of technical material for readers of all backgrounds and levels of expertise.

Welcome to English 302--a class that will show you how to develop your skills--and use the skills you've already mastered in getting a university education. Your skills--strategically used--will enable you to put your own personal dent in the professional universe in which you will soon make your home.
